Description
Collection of materials collected from the Nelson Room drawers in the Nelson Room at the Traverse Area District Library, Main Library. Items related to local history were first collected by Traverse City Public Library staff at the Carnegie Library location on Sixth Street. When the library relocated to the Woodmere Avenue location, the materials in this collection were moved to the Nelson Room under the auspices of the Adult Services Department. In February 2024, the Local History Collection acquired the archival materials located in the Nelson Room drawers.
The collection is organized to retain the original order of the drawers , the original boxes, and the inventory.
This collection consists of ephemera, documents, maps, newspaper clippings, scrapbooks. The collection is thematically diverse with materials related to the history of the Grand Traverse Region including: Original material related to Interlochen Arts Camp, Traverse City Municipal Association, Traverse Area Public Schools, National Cherry Festival, Traverse City Ministerial Association, local businesses, St. Francis High School, Traverse City Chamber of Commerce, Maud Miller Hoffmaster, tourism, Traverse City State Hospital, and World War II.
