The Traverse City Public Library was formally dedicated on March 10th, 1905. Traverse City mayor E.J. Fulghum, Board of Trustees President E.L. Sprague, and Board of Public Works President C.M. Prall all delivered speeches at the event.

Honorable Perry Hannah
In 1902, philanthropist Andrew Carnegie donated $20,000 to the City of Traverse City to build a state of the art public library. In response to Carnegie's generous gift, Perry Hannah donated land to be used for the City's new library on Sixth Street.…

The Ladies Library, established in 1869 was the first library association in Traverse City. This library preceded the City Public Library by over three decades.
