Gentlemen
In reply to your favor of the 22nd
inst. win say that we put 280 lbs. of salt
each barrel; the barrel and aU should
weigh 300 lbs; 280 lbs. being the lawful

time alloted for the salt to drain before it
is packed. If salt is made in the winter it
does not drain as well, and after being
barreled might fall a few lbs. short; say
three or four lbs., because the draining
will take place when it is in the barrel.

not to keep it from boiling over, but to
make the salt fine. In making 1100 bar
rels of salt per day, we use 160 lbs. of the
cheapest butter we can buy. With our vacuhi process no butter will be used, or any
thing else; hence our vacum pah salt will
be the best dairy salt made in the United
States. It will be put into barrels and sold
as No. 1 fine salt, for the present, at the
same price that Jlie other brands are sold
for.
,

You can assure your farmer
friends that the Manistee salt will
always be the same as Saginaw or
any other salt made in an open
grainer; for they all use butter. If
the farmer uses the ordinary No. 1
fine salt for everything from the
barn to the chum, he will do WELL
to buy the vacum pan salt, as the
grain is very much finer, and it has no
