Michael McGuire, former director for the Traverse City Public Library, later the Traverse Area District Library, served in that position from 1979 to 2009. He succeeded Robert Onley as director.

The new entrance provided direct access to the new addition recently completed on the Traverse Area District Library. The addition increased the Library's space by 7000 square feet.
