Description
The ship "City of Traverse" at St. Clair. This ship was built by Quayle & Martin at Cleveland in 1870 at a cost of $85,000. Of 1200 tons, she was 225 feet long and 32 feet wide. She had luxurious accommodations for 75 passengers and could carry 640,000 feet of lumber. Owned and operated by Hannah/Lay interest of Traverse City. Sold to the Graham & Morton Line in 1887 who then sailed her from Chicago to Lake Superior ports. No other information after Benton Harbor layup and presumed abandoned in 1907.
