Description

Color image of Clifford "Uncle Putt" Hinmon, of the Grand River Bands of Ottawa Indians. Hinmon was born 2 Oct 1911 and died 14 Sep 1998. He lived in the Acme, Williamsburg, and Yuba areas, and also was known to live at 118 Barlow Street in Traverse City (Mich.) His sister was Josephine Sams. His nickname, Uncle Putt, stemmed from the fact that he had a noticeable limp and a differently-formed leg. He was also part of a family group called Redbird, or Meshko-Beneshe, and was so called because there is no native Odawa word for cardinal.
