He grew up on Old Mission Peninsula and could speak the local American Indian Language (Ojibwe), as could his daughter. He was trusted by the local American Indian populace. The Woman, Ah-Ne-Quet Qua, translates to Storm Cloud Woman. She was a basket maker and Mr. Miller bought from the American Indians and sold their baskets. This information was provided by a knowledgeable resident of the Grand Traverse Region. Information provided on back of photograph indicates that this is an American Indian basketmaker Ah-Ne-Quet-Qua and interpreter She-Wa-Na-Ge-Sick.
