Description

The Buckley and Douglas lumber company from Manistee owned the land that would later become the Interlochen State Park. They subdivided the portion on Green Lake, called it Pine Park and were going to sell lots using this brochure.
WWI made lumber more profitable so in 1914 they decided to cut the timber. To save the property, Willis Pennington bought it from them and convinced the state to buy it for a state park. Interlochen became Michigan's first park in 1917 when the Michigan State Park Commission was formed.
