Black and white photograph of Doris A. Tompkins, riding on a horse during a Cherry Festival Parade. Doris was the 1930 Cherry Festival Princess from East Bay Elementary, and often rode her horse in the Cherry Festival Parade. She graduated from Central High School in 1939 or 1940 and later married Bill Eike. She graduated from the Theresa Marion Beauty School Academy on 8th Street in Traverse City, in May 1941. Doris owned/ran a small hair salon at 816 Webster, which was adjacent to 'Boule's Grocery Store' at 814 Webster. She was known as the young woman with blue hair, as her hair turned white at an early age, and she often used a blue rinse in it afterwards. Later in life, Doris was active in the Traverse City Senior Center. Identification provided by several persons, including the subject's friend, Helen Wransky of Suttons Bay, Michigan; Annabel Hains of Traverse City; Joyce Lundberg; Gary and Judith McKinley; and Braun and Shirley Courtier.
