Description

Train wreck in which Hiram Witkop was killed by being scalded. For nearly 100 years, from 1872 well into the 20th century, trains were the main form of transportation into and out of the Grand Traverse Region. Extremely convenient and efficient, train travel still presented its own dangers, this accident occurred around 1900.
Unfortunately, one of the crew died from scalds received in the incident.
