A fight occurred in tho Coommittee Room between
Col Hindman and Mr. Hooper, contesting Delegate from
Arkansas.
During CoL Dindman's remarks he designated the.Convention held at Madison, where the contestants were appointed, as a mass meeting, and said that not more than
150 persons were present, and that they were not citizens
of the State. In the course of Mr. Hooper's reply be
pointed twice or thrice at Col llindman with his finger,
aqd alluded to him as " that man" in what Col. Hindman
considered an insulting manner. Col Hindman struck or
threw his hand away, as it Dearly touched his bead.—
Hooper then proceeded to say that the statement mado by
" that man" *eepecting the Madison meeting was " false
—unqualifiedly fake." CoL H. immediately stepped in
front of Mr. Hooper and struck him in the face quite
a hard blow, and then instantly stepping back drew a
pistol from the pocket of his pantaloons. Mr. Hooper also made a movement as if preparing to draw some weapon, but thefriends of Col. Hindman immediately surrounded him and told him that he had gone for enough, preventing him from using his pistol CoL Hindman apologized to the Committee for the violence, and Mr. Hooper did not retaliate, satisfied that a hostile meeting jnust
ensue. A duel between the parties may be expected
after the adjournment of the Convention.
A personal difficulty also occurred between two members of the Virginia Delegation, which has led to a hostile message. Mr. Prior had arrived as tho friend of one
of tho parties. Tho affair grew out of the Douglas controversy.
And still auother fisticuff occurred between Mr. Randall and Mr. Montgommeiy of Pennsylvania, in which
the latter's nose was broken. Another duel.
