Description
Black and white image of United States Army National Guard, Company E, 126th Infantry, Grayling, Michigan, likely taken around the time of World War I, given their uniforms. The uniforms they are wearing do not appear to be battle-ready, and may be for training only. The hats appear to be campaign hats in the Montana Peak-style, broad-brimmed, and are adorned with braided rope and tassels. The rope could indicate these men are part of a cavalry unit. Immediately behind the soldiers are a group of tents that appear to be used as sleeping quarters, and some men are standing at attention with their backs to the viewer between the tents. There are about 5 permanent structures in the background. These structures are made of wood, with walls that extend from the ground to about 3 feet shy of where they would meet the roof. The space from the walls to the roof are encased in netting. Single-width doors are placed at the end of the structures to act as a portal in and out of the building, and the structures are unadorned.
