THE MARSHALL PAlfflLY,

“Good-Bye All, Geod-Bye. it is God’s Will. His
WHI Be Done.”-Last Words of President WUiiam
McKinley.
Buffalo. Sept. I4.2:^a.m.—(EasternTime)—President Willtam McKinley passed away
peacefully at 2:15 tTiismornins; He hadDeen unconscious since 7:50 last evening, except
between 1 1 and 12 o’clock.
The last hours of cqnsciousness of the president were spent with Mrs. McKmIey by his
bedside and his hands held tenderly in those of his sorrowing wife.
the president’s last words were: -Good-Bye. All, Good Bye. It is God's Will. His
Wm be Done.”
. ^
. There was no clergymen present, but the president died in humble submission to God,
in whom he believed.
r
Th0 announcement of the president’s death was made by Secretary Cortelyou. It is
believed that death came shortly after 2 a. m.. but Dr. Rixey witheld his announcement un
til he was perfectly sure that death had dome.
In the sick ro^ at the time of the death of President McKinley were Private Secretary
Corieiyou. Mrs. and MiR Barber. Miss Duncan and Dn Rtxey. The members of the cabinet
were admitted tb the sick room one at a time before death came. These are all strong men.
but when they left the death chamber tears streamed down their cheeks.
Vice-President Roosevelt will arrive in Buffalo at 7 o’clock this morning. Dr. McBurney arrived from New York this afternoon.
Buffalo. Sept. 14, 2:30 a. m.—There is no disorder on t^e streets, universal sorrow
being manifested everywhere. It is stated that early in the evening a mob was forming to
lynch the assassin, but additional precautions were taken by thq authorities and the guards
•dout)ledr No serious trouble is anticipated.
Buffalo. Sept. 14—The announcement of the death to the members of the cabinet was
made by Webb Hayes, who said.
is all over.”
Mrs. McKinley last saw her husband between I I and 12 o’clock. At that time she sat
by his bed holding his hand. Thd actual death probably occured about 2 o’clock. It being
ynderstood that Dr. Rixey delayed the announcement,to assure himself. Through Secre
tary Cortelyou the newspaper men were notified. When the news was imparted \p those
down sUirs a great sigh of anguish went up from those strong men assembled. Then with
mournful tread they turned into the darkness.

He is better than yesterday at this time. Pulse 123: temper

tomorrow morning his physicians believe the crisis will be
passed.
Buffalo. Sept. 13. i p. m.—The President is slightly bet

strong heart stimulants. It is believed he could not survive
another sinking spell. When the strychnine was injected this
morning the president feebly asked what it was. When told,
he asked if the emergency requir<*d such a remedy, and when
answered in the affirmative the president replied, “1 realize "*
