Armour Estate, “The Timbers,” Photograph Collection contains 82, 8x10" sheet film negatives and a small selection of prints of the Armour Estate, located on Long Lake in Long Lake Township, Michigan. The bulk of the images are of the interior of the main building (also known as the Mansion), photographed around 1944. To market the Estate for sale, Traverse City-based Send & Send Photographers were hired to take both interior and exterior shots of the buildings. The Armour Estate was built on a piece of lakefront property, long used as a resort area called The Timbers, by J. Ogden Armour and Lola Spencer Sheldon Armour in 1919. The architect was Arthur Heun.

Abstract
Armour Estate, “The Timbers,” Photograph Collection contains 82, 8x10" sheet film negatives and a small selection of prints of the Armour Estate, located on Long Lake in Long Lake Township, Michigan. The bulk of the images are of the interior of the main building (also known as the Mansion), photographed around 1944. To market the Estate for sale, Traverse City-based Send & Send Photographers were hired to take both interior and exterior shots of the buildings. The Armour Estate was built on a piece of lakefront property, long used as a resort area called The Timbers, by J. Ogden Armour and Lola Spencer Sheldon Armour in 1919. The architect was Arthur Heun.

Scope and Content Note
Collection contains primarily 8x10” sheet film negatives, and a small selection of prints, documenting the interior and exterior of buildings on the Armour Estate at “The Timber” in Long Lake Township, Michigan. The main building, known as the Mansion, is the primary subject.

Accession and Arrangement Note
Collection inherited from the Traverse Area Historical Society, and is comprised of two different accessions. One is a set of prints, original call number 718.000001.63, had been combined with a number of prints of the Perry Hannah House, Sixth Street, Traverse City, for reasons unknown. The other is a set of negatives that was never accessioned.
