Mrs. Taft: In regard to the letter you wrote Mr. Flack about driving a well on your farm at Old Mission. We have driven a number of wells on the peninsula and all the wells down that way have to be driven as there are to many stone and lose soil they cannot bore them. All the shallow well down that way are from about 30 to 60 feet and are [drv] of 2 and 3 inch pipe. We drive [1.25] 2 inch for $1.25 a foot and board for 2 min. 3 in for $2.00 a foot and board. if we do not have to go more than 30 or 40 feet we can do it in two or three days. if deep it will depend on whether it is hard or easy driving. We have a couple of wells to drive first: but think we could get there some time in April. In regard to pumps we have a good hand pump if well is not over 30 feet deep that will throw a good stream of water. if over 30 ft. you would have to use a tublar well pump. Now do you want to pump the water into the buildings if so you will have to use a force pump if not a you can use just a hand pump. What kind of a pump do you think you would like of course most of them used here Are those combination hand and wind mill as they are about all that give good satisfaction here. but if there is some kind you like let us know as we will use any kind one wants.
