Description

Building of the first hydro electric power dam on the Boardman River, known as the "Boardman Dam". The Boardman River Electric Light and Power company had been formed by L.K. Gibbs and others to provide electric power to Traverse City. Up to this time the H.D. Campbell & Sons Water Works & Electric Company had tried to provide electricity with a steam powered generator, but he city outgrew it's output very quickly. These were both private companies.
