taken as the ground work of the new. and that only such
changes should be made as time and experience have
laiighl us are ncrcssary to adopt it to the changed condi
tion of our, people.”
Delegates to the i anventipii. having such important
duties to perform, ought not, in his juilgmenl. to be gov
erned entirely by their personal opinions, but should keep
ill touch with the people of their district, and be gov
erned to a great extent by the opinions o! those whom
they represent, as to what changes should or should not
be made.,
If he is sent as a delegate, he vyill feel that while he
is there in the interest pf the people of the entire state,
he is also there to voice the scmiiuenls of the people of
tis district, an<l will at all times be pleased to receive
from them suggestions and instructions, and to act ac
cordingly.
The only pledge that he can conscientitnndy-maljc is
that if he is elected as a delegate he will, to the best of
his ability, strive to promote the framing of a constitution
that will not only safeguanl the interests of what are
termed the common people, but will also give to them as
large a share as possible in all matters of local and state
government.
He has no hesitancy in saying most emphatically that
he is not agent or attorney for. or in any way connected

Big Buying Mite Little Priete
Big
Selling
makes little profits, plenty big: enough.

^ following this motto we have made this store
the headquarters for all economical furniture buyers.

i

' •

And this year we have bought heavier than ever before and we
figure on making this the best year of our history in Traverse City.
WE WASTE NO MONEY in buyingfiirhsyfurniture. Everything
we buy must be made of thoroughiy seasoned wood, and the work
manship must be the best- Our buyer has spent his whole life in
the furniture business and knows good material and good work
manship when he sees it
So you take no chances of getting poorly constructed furniture
when yotrbuy here.

J.
W.
SLATER
.The furniture man who ddes just as he advertises.
