Abstract
Records of subsidiary Grange Halls located in Peninsula Township and Grand Traverse
County. National fraternal organization and agricultural advocacy group. Series in this
collection: Grand Traverse Grange #17, Grand Traverse Grange #379, Michigan
State Grange Publications, National Grange Publications, Peninsula Grange #663.
History
The Grange (officially the National Grange of the Order of Patrons of Husbandry) acted
locally to promote the needs of rural communities. The Grange is an active fraternal
organization in the United States, but local interest has waned in recent years. During the
creation of the records held in this collection, the Grange as an organization and the
Grange Hall as a physical location served an important social and business function for the
rural workers and farmers of Grand Traverse County. As the records held in this collection
are incomplete, further study needs to be made to determine operating years and other
essential information.
Scope and Content Note
The records of Grand Traverse County Grange are divided into series based on creator,
with the intent of maintaining the provenance of the records; there are no accession
records available for this collection. In reviewing the records, it is clear that the collection is
incomplete. The series in this collection are: Grand Traverse Grange #17, Grand
