Dear Sir,
Your favor of 5th inst. at hand
+ Contents noted, and in accordance with your request we
Sent you 50 Arch brick as pr. bill enclosed, amounting to
$4.25 which please pass to our credit.
As you did not mention the sizes, we sent 2 sizes, 25 each
of 2 ½” tapered done to 2” tampered down to 1 ½”, which
we trust will suit you. We told you when here, that we better
make the arch according to your plan, but you thought your
mason could make it there + cut the brick to suit + fit the Arch.
We don’t understand what you mean when you say, that
the rock faced brick cannot be used unless they are worked over
again. We are selling thousands + thousands of these brick and
have just furnished about 12000 for one building and we
never have heard one word of complaint. It seems to us that
your mason does not know much about pressed brick. We
dont know what you mean by your sketch [sketch], they
rock faced on the longside and not on the end, unless
[page 2]
for headers, which we did not send you. The end cuts no figure at all, as long as the face is good. Every mason here admits that our rock face are the best in the market
and we know what we are speaking about. If you had let us
furnish you with the Arch, you would have had no trouble.
As there was a little room in the barrel we put in 8 Jambs
of which we make no charge.
Yours Truly,
Terra Cotta Brick Co.
P.S.
Use the narrowed brick where the Arch makes the strongest curve.
