Image of the Christian mission to the local Native Americans established in 1839 by Rev. Peter Dougherty. This is the oldest settlement in the Grand Traverse region. The following is printed on the back of the image: "Old Indian Mission, Old Mission, Michigan, This old, old original Indian school is said to be the oldest Indian Mission in the entire Region. Take M-37 North out of Traverse City, along Old Mission peninsula, where beautiful scenery and cherries are everywhere, and you will come to this interesting old building. Also visit the old lighthouse nearby which stands almost exactly on the 45th parallel.
