Image of Native American mission established by Peter Dougherty in 1839 on the Old Mission Peninsula. On back of image is printed the following: "Old Indian Mission, Old Mission, Michigan, This old, old Indian school is said to be the oldest Indian Mission in the entire Region. Take M-37 North out of Traverse City, along Old Mission peninsula, where beautiful scenery and cherries are everywhere, and you will come to this interesting old building. Also visit the old lighthouse nearby which stands almost exactly on the 45th parallel."
